On June 9, 2017, I was honored with the opportunity to shoot my first Indian Ceremony. Ashley and Amrik held their two day event, with their traditional American ceremony the following day, at The Henry Clay in downtown Louisville. It was a great experience to capture this special day for them. Family came in from around the world to witness the joining of these two amazing families.
My favorite moment of the day was Amrik’s barat. Watching his friends and family dance their way to the ceremony location down the streets of Louisville was a sight I won’t forget for some time to come! I also enjoyed the vibrant colors everyone was wearing!

Amrik and Ashley met through a mutual friend. They initially hung out together very often as friends, but it was clear to the people around them that their relationship was blossoming into something more. Breaking with the usual gender traditions, Ashley asked Amrik out on a first date. He accepted, unsure whether this was just another friendly outing…but he dressed accordingly just in case it was something more. That night they went out to a new restaurant in town, and the conversation flowed easily, like it always had. After that date, it was clear that Amrik and Ashley had a real connection.
They began to spend all their free time together and became a real couple. As the saying goes, “A love built on friendship is a love that lasts”. They spent a year together building their relationship and Ashley decided when Amrik found out he would be going to Yale to continue his medical training, she would join him. This began the next chapter of their lives. They soon became engaged, after Amrik asked Ashley with a belly flop on the bed in his boxers….how could she say no. They still live in New Haven and now have acquired a fur child, Nina. They are so excited for their continued future together as husband and wife.
